In the 8th minute Alex Mansilha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lionel Paly saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Academica Pulheim were awarded a corner in the 9th minute after FC Wil 1900's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Alex Mansilha took the corner. In the 12th minute Alex Mansilha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lionel Paly saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lionel Paly showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lutz Golke in the 16th minute of the match. With a little luck, FC Wil 1900's Lionel Paly got control of the ball when Kurt Ahrem tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gary Lineker in the 30th minute of play forced FC Wil 1900's goalkeeper Lionel Paly to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lionel Paly showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joachim Kretschmer in the 32nd minute of the match. When Pirmin Jäggi came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the FC Wil 1900 fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pirmin Jäggi couldn't finish the play. With his leg Lionel Paly managed to avoid a goal in the 35thth minute, when Academica Pulheim's Lutz Golke fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Lutz Golke received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Lionel Paly tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lionel Paly made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Kurt Ahrem sent off a good shot on target. Alex Mansilha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lionel Paly having to interfere. Pirmin Jäggi hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Curtiz Klein charged in rather forcefully in the 50th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Curtiz Klein the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The audience was convinced that Lutz Golke's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lionel Paly was relentless in the 51st minute of the game. Paul Heyckendorf made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tory Pryor in the 54th minute of play. In the 57th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Wil 1900's goalkeeper Lionel Paly, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Alex Mansilha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Academica Pulheim made a substitution. Zbigniew Setara replaced Kurt Ahrem. FC Wil 1900's Lionel Paly played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maxime Vrints in the 64th minute of play. After a rather tough play, FC Wil 1900's Bernhard Zollinger got a free kick in the 66th minute. FC Wil 1900 made a substitution. Sobah Rico replaced Bernhard Zollinger. The supporters of Academica Pulheim booed when FC Wil 1900 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bernhard Zollinger didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 75th minute Ivan Dové shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paul Heyckendorf saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 79thth minute of the game Alex Leisibach who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Academica Pulheim's Paul Heyckendorf was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gary Lineker took the ball and in the 84 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lionel Paly. Lionel Paly dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. In the 91st minute, Alex Mansilha ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lionel Paly was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. Lionel Paly came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Academica Pulheim's Zbigniew Setara. But to his dismay, Zbigniew Setara quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Academica Pulheim's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
