In the 7th minute, Nae Griguță hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 12 minutes into the game, Zygmunt Dunajski recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Edwin van der Sar. Zygmunt Dunajski showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. 20 minutes into the match, FC Steaua Pildesti's goal looked a bit too open when Dabi Saens came free, but Marian Văduvescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 28 minutes União Sport Clube Paredes's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Nistor Costandache who took care of the corner kick. 30 minutes into the game, Lucian Stere recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Edwin van der Sar. Lucian Stere showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-0. In the 34th minute, Lucian Stere reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Edwin van der Sar. The goal made the score 4-0. Constantin Deșliu hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. In the 38th minute, Jerónimo Furtado made a precise shot to the right of Marian Văduvescu. FC Steaua Pildesti's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-1. If Nicolae Barbu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nicolae Barbu who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 45thth minute tested the skills of Edwin van der Sar when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nicolae Barbu to make the kick off. Edwin van der Sar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Zygmunt Dunajski's shot from short distance in the 51st minute. In the 53rd minute FC Steaua Pildesti were awarded a corner. Nistor Costandache went to the cornerflag to take it. Filip Paulescu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Edwin van der Sar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nicolae Barbu, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Nicolae Barbu managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Steaua Pildesti's supporters rose to their feet, but Nicolae Barbu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edwin van der Sar breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Edwin van der Sar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicolae Barbu in the 61st minute of the match. FC Steaua Pildesti were awarded a corner in the 62th minute after União Sport Clube Paredes's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Nistor Costandache took the corner. The corner led FC Steaua Pildesti's Filip Paulescu to fire away a dangerous shot which Edwin van der Sar despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Roman Quilo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Marian Văduvescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 72nd minute Nicolae Barbu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edwin van der Sar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, União Sport Clube Paredes's Altino Palha got a free kick in the 74th minute. Marian Văduvescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bernardo lago in the 77th minute of the match. Lucian Stere fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edwin van der Sar having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roman Quilo in the 83rd minute of play forced FC Steaua Pildesti's goalkeeper Marian Văduvescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. FC Steaua Pildesti's Marian Văduvescu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to save FC Steaua Pildesti from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Filip Paulescu in the 90th minute of play forced União Sport Clube Paredes's goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The FC Steaua Pildesti fans cheered their team off the field, for while União Sport Clube Paredes had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
