Sporting de Gijón's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Uriel Cordearo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. In the 11th match minute, Tello AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hong Yi Yang to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice moves Saturnino Curcio could shoot a difficult shot in the 12th minute, which Dalmacio Pello however easily saved by the left post. In the 14th minute Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner. Saturnino Curcio went to the cornerflag to take it. In the 15th minute, Hong Yi Yang left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Tello AFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. In the 22nd minute Uriel Cordearo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 32 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Saturnino Curcio. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pastor Nofre in the 34th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Óscar Cordoba saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. In the 36th minute, Diego Maradona made a precise shot to the right of Dalmacio Pello. Tello AFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. In the 42nd minute, Alejandro Rufo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Uriel Cordearo made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hong Yi Yang in the 52nd minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Tello AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Uriel Cordearo didn't get a good kick on the ball.
