Luke Clist started the match with the kick off. The audience was convinced that Iustin Bungeanu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dinei Pinheiro was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. Dinei Pinheiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luke Clist in the 31st minute of play. 33 minutes into the match, Palmeiras's goal looked a bit too open when Leif Törnqvist came free, but Régis de Queirós reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With an all-out effort, Palmeiras's Dinei Pinheiro threw himself towards the right post 36 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Luke Clist, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The corner ended in Leonardo Donato almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but SeleSantos FC's Dinei Pinheiro did a great save. Iustin Bungeanu made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 40thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Dinei Pinheiro would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Niilo Mikkola made a kick off. The supporters of Palmeiras booed when SeleSantos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jacobo Casado didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Montenegro got free with Régis de Queirós in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luke Clist sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dinei Pinheiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luke Clist in the 60th minute of play. José Carlos Simões replaced Iustin Bungeanu. Palmeiras's Ghenadie Furdui was substituted for Roderick Oosterhof. Régis de Queirós stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Niilo Mikkola's shot from short distance in the 76th minute. Niilo Mikkola fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Régis de Queirós having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, José Carlos Simões managed to get in a good position for a shot. Palmeiras's supporters rose to their feet, but José Carlos Simões was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dinei Pinheiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
