Albérico Neto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but José Carlos Sanches read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. 13 minutes into the game, Albérico Neto cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. José Carlos Sanches was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Renato Fernandez in the 17th minute of play forced Alvinegro Carioca's goalkeeper José Carlos Sanches to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. José Carlos Sanches didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Albérico Neto went, in the 19th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. José Carlos Sanches showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Albérico Neto, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. After 32 minutes, Marcos Para mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Alvinegro Carioca and the Aguinhas players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 33rd minute, Marcos Para hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 34th minute, Albérico Neto made a precise shot to the right of José Carlos Sanches. Alvinegro Carioca's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. In the 43rd match minute, Alvinegro Carioca was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcos Para to maneuver through the defense. Aguinhas's Albérico Neto got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Bruno Africano stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Baybars-Tolgahan Balta's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Walmyr Queirós was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. Gilson Quadros could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but José Carlos Sanches made a huge save. Marcos Para hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mazarópi Orange in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck José Carlos Sanches prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 91st minute, one of Alvinegro Carioca:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Alvinegro Carioca. José Carlos Sanches made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gilson Quadros in the 96th minute. Aguinhas's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
