César Eger blasted a shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dinei Pinheiro having to make a save. Gerrit Cronen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacobo Casado in the 26th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, S.C.PAULISTA's César Eger sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dinei Pinheiro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Leif Törnqvist sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute SeleSantos FC were awarded a corner. Niilo Mikkola went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led to SeleSantos FC's Daniel Montenegro getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. 41 minutes had been played when some careless play by SeleSantos FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Jorge Neto was slow to take the kick. During this time S.C.PAULISTA's players had a chance to rest. In the 43rdth minute of the game Leonidas Orange who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but SeleSantos FC's Dinei Pinheiro was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gerrit Cronen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jacobo Casado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of S.C.PAULISTA booed when SeleSantos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aílton Seco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Leonidas Orange recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Leonidas Orange made a kick off. Gerrit Cronen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jacobo Casado, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. In the 53rd minute Jacobo Casado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerrit Cronen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kauã Chaves kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. If Leif Törnqvist had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dinei Pinheiro made an important save on a dangerous shot by Leonidas Orange in the 62nd minute.
