The Ballybunion Celtic F.C. fans' excitement grew in the 10th match minute when Ballybunion Celtic F.C.'s Doctor Quinn looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Doctor Quinn received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Banvan Duggan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jânio de Barros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bil McPhilip, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. In the 18th minute, Braulio Martinez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Banvan Duggan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Braulio Martinez in the 19th minute of the match. Ballybunion Celtic F.C.'s attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Ahmet Kadri Uğurtay in the 20th minute. After a defensive mix-up in St. James Gate F.C.'s zone, Braulio Martinez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Banvan Duggan came out of the goal and Braulio Martinez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Braulio Martinez came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Ballybunion Celtic F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Braulio Martinez couldn't finish the play. Banvan Duggan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Braulio Martinez in the 36th minute of the match. St. James Gate F.C.'s Banvan Duggan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Doctor Quinn in the 39th minute of play. After 44 minutes, Danann Dillon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the St. James Gate F.C. and the Ballybunion Celtic F.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 44th minute, Danann Dillon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Roland Prunty to make the kick off. After 61 played minutes St. James Gate F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Coinneach McDonald. Ballybunion Celtic F.C.'s Ahmet Kadri Uğurtay got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 64th minute Bil McPhilip shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jânio de Barros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the St. James Gate F.C. defense, Alfredinho Teixeira kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Banvan Duggan. The St. James Gate F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Banvan Duggan should have stopped the shot. Banvan Duggan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredinho Teixeira in the 84th minute of play. Banvan Duggan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Doctor Quinn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 90th minute Derry McGlynn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Banvan Duggan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 91 minutes had been played when some careless play by St. James Gate F.C.'s defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Tipraite Costello was slow to take the kick. During this time Ballybunion Celtic F.C.'s players had a chance to rest. A collision led to St. James Gate F.C. getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Ballybunion Celtic F.C. fully deserved thier win.
