When the match had gone on for 7 minutes, Manuel Fernandes put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of André Toledo. Herberto Corte-Real fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without André Toledo having to interfere. Sporting Clube de Gaya's Carlos Linhares proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Sporting Clube de Gaya from getting a goal against them. Cesinha Paraense did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-1 to the left of a surprised Carlos Linhares 13 minutes into the match. 17 minutes into the game, Herberto Corte-Real was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sporting Clube de Gaya's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Compostela FSCMZ the free kick. Herberto Corte-Real hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. When Cesinha Paraense came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Compostela FSCMZ fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cesinha Paraense couldn't finish the play. With his leg Carlos Linhares managed to avoid a goal in the 28thth minute, when Compostela FSCMZ's Cesinha Paraense fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Vladimiro Moutinho lost his temper 34 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The supporters of Compostela FSCMZ booed when Sporting Clube de Gaya was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vladimiro Moutinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cesinha Paraense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Linhares having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Deivid Ferraz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Compostela FSCMZ made a substitution. Hugo Diniz replaced Bernardo Gonçalves. Carlos Linhares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cesinha Paraense, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting Clube de Gaya's zone, Hugo Diniz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlos Linhares came out of the goal and Hugo Diniz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Compostela FSCMZ getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Jânio Monteiro hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 85th minute, Cesinha Paraense managed to get in a good position for a shot. Compostela FSCMZ's supporters rose to their feet, but Cesinha Paraense was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Linhares breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Carlos Linhares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hugo Diniz in the 87th minute of play. In the 91st match minute, Sporting Clube de Gaya was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nuno Carmo to maneuver through the defense. In the 93rd minute of the match, Herberto Corte-Real tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but André Toledo saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Many of Sporting Clube de Gaya's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Sporting Clube de Gaya may have spent more time on the ball, but Compostela FSCMZ were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
