Ronnie Hellström showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Diego Maradona in the 28th minute of the match. In the 33rd minute of the match, Kevin Keegan tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Óscar Cordoba saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Matias Bilintx put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Ronnie Hellström. Chen Ao Fan who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 42ndth minute tested the skills of Óscar Cordoba when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The Skövde AIK players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Sporting de Gijón were winning 0-2.
