The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Aurelio Badilla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 6 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Aurelio Badilla came free, but Ramon Peralta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 7 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Wiliam Peren came free, but Frank Mora reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 8 minutes Costa Rica's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Max Moscoso who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Victor Agurto got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Frank Mora quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 10 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Aurelio Badilla came free, but Ramon Peralta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Alberto Davila hit a great ball. 17 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Jorge Luna came free, but Ramon Peralta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Wiliam Peren could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Frank Mora made a huge save. 20 minutes into the match, Pedro Villalaz dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Frank Mora, 1-0. Ramon Peralta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aurelio Badilla, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Nicolás Gomez hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. In the 25th minute of the match Chunche Montero sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ramon Peralta skillfully saved the ball. Reiner Fallas struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Ramon Peralta didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Costa Rica. Pedro Villalaz took the ball and in the 37 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Frank Mora. Frank Mora dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. The audience was convinced that Wiliam Peren's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Frank Mora was relentless in the 41st minute of the game. 43 minutes into the game, Leo Calvo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Panama the free kick. Leo Calvo kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Wiliam Peren to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Panama getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Victor Agurto hit a great ball. Jorge Luna could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Ramon Peralta made a huge save. Panama's Ramon Peralta proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Panama from getting a goal against them. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Leonidas Arias managed to get in a good position for a shot. Panama's supporters rose to their feet, but Leonidas Arias was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Frank Mora breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Costa Rica's Alain Duarte was substituted for Giovanni Lehman. With an all-out effort, Costa Rica's Ramon Peralta threw himself towards the right post 67 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jorge Luna, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Costa Rica's Frank Mora played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wiliam Peren in the 72nd minute of play. 77 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Wiliam Peren came free, but Frank Mora reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 78th minute, Matias González hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Panama made a substitution. Nicolás Perez replaced Leonidas Arias. Matias González hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. Frank Mora took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Villalaz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 86th minute, Leo Calvo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Villalaz in the 88th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Frank Mora to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Frank Mora showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wiliam Peren, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Ramon Peralta made a fantastic save in the 91st minute, when Alfonso Mejias sent off a good shot on target. Leo Calvo kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Costa Rica's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
