The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Oswaldo Godoi in the 4th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bebeto de Salles prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Christiano Baiano fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SE Palmeiras's protests and gave Christiano Baiano a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of União Verde FC booed when SE Palmeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Christiano Baiano didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nilson Dracena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jorge Mendonça, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 14th minute, Oswaldo Godoi ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bebeto de Salles was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Christiano Baiano hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. After 24 played minutes União Verde FC got a freekick which was hit by Ademir Guia. Vladimir Motta charged in rather forcefully in the 26th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vladimir Motta the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 25 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for União Verde FC! Laércio Damião's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 33rdth minute, Nilson Dracena skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Nilson Dracena didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gilvan Pombal went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. The supporters of SE Palmeiras booed when União Verde FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Mendonça didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 39th minute, Ademir Guia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Oswaldo Godoi struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. Bebeto de Salles didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SE Palmeiras. After 51 played minutes União Verde FC got a freekick which was hit by Gil Paiva. Basílio do Valle recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Gilvan Pombal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 66th minute, Oswaldo Godoi managed to get in a good position for a shot. SE Palmeiras's supporters rose to their feet, but Oswaldo Godoi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bebeto de Salles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Natanael Paraense charged in rather forcefully in the 69th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Ademir Guia managed to get in a good position for a shot. União Verde FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ademir Guia was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nilson Dracena breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 92nd match minute, União Verde FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ademir Guia to maneuver through the defense. Chants of SE Palmeiras echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as União Verde FC had held the ball for most of the match.
