Francisco Infante came out of the goal and Gaston Gonzalez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 11 played minutes Lima Team got a freekick which was hit by Caetano Assunção. Marquês de Herval's Pedro Luís da Rocha shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 12th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Francisco Infante but with some difficulty. A collision led to Lima Team getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Carlos Palmeira hit a great ball. Francisco Infante was out of position in the 17 minute of play, and Nestor Paraibano capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Nestor Paraibano really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. The supporters of Lima Team booed when Marquês de Herval was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. German Cano didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dida Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Palmeira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Francisco Infante was a little too slow when Alfredo Martins got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 26th minute. The score was now 2-0. With a little luck, Lima Team's Francisco Infante got control of the ball when Alfredo Martins tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Marquês de Herval's Alfredo Martins in the 30th minute got a chance for a shot 30th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Lima Team's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nestor Paraibano in the 40th minute of play forced Lima Team's goalkeeper Francisco Infante to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dida Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Palmeira, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Carlos Palmeira charged in rather forcefully in the 57th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Carlos Palmeira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Francisco Infante showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfredo Martins, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. In the 60th minute, Alfredo Martins ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Francisco Infante was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. In the 74th minute of the match Lima Team got a corner. Marquês de Herval's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Herberto Caiado ran over to the corner to take the kick. Francisco Infante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfredo Martins in the 77th minute of the match. 80 minutes into the match, Lima Team's goal looked a bit too open when Nestor Paraibano came free, but Francisco Infante reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Lima Team getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Anselmo Domingos hit a great ball. Marquês de Herval's Jair Bostan was substituted for Selami Rezan. After 82 played minutes Lima Team got a freekick which was hit by Anselmo Domingos. A collision led to Marquês de Herval getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Nestor Paraibano hit a great ball. Carlos Palmeira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alfredo Martins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 94th minute, Alfredo Martins hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 95 played minutes Marquês de Herval got a freekick which was hit by Gao Xiang Guang.
