Marquês de Herval's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nestor Paraibano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 42 played minutes Marquês de Herval got a freekick which was hit by Gao Xiang Guang. In the 43rd minute of the match Herberto Caiado sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dida Taffarel skillfully saved the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Herberto Caiado stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Francisco Infante showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfredo Martins, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. In the 64th minute, Caetano Assunção hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Francisco Infante took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfredo Martins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
