Agustín Tobias kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. Mino Valcarcel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Xano Castellano in the 16th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Velez-Malaga's Crescencio Guijarro slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Mino Valcarcel. That made the score 1-1 after 18 minutes of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Xian Vacas got free with Mino Valcarcel in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 21 minutes, Crescencio Guijarro put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Mino Valcarcel. After a rather tough play, Velez-Malaga's Herminio Boniel got a free kick in the 26th minute. Edmund Dulemba was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mosen Gimenez stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 69th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Barcelona's goalkeeper Mino Valcarcel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 74th minute, Agustín Tobias got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Angelino Lawrence made a fantastic save in the 76th minute, when Mosen Gimenez sent off a good shot on target. 79 minutes into the match, Velez-Malaga's Xano Castellano sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mino Valcarcel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Xano Castellano in the 84th minute of play forced FC Barcelona's goalkeeper Mino Valcarcel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 92 played minutes Velez-Malaga got a freekick which was hit by Edmund Dulemba. FC Barcelona's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
