Fynn John made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Richard Mendonça in the 3rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristóvão Ribeiro in the 9th minute of play forced Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper Fynn John to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 11th minute Jorginho Valle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fynn John saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 18th minute, Gonzo Donis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 19 minutes into the match, Atlético Mineiro's goal looked a bit too open when Karl-Magnus Biörkquist came free, but Fynn John reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fynn John showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristóvão Ribeiro in the 23rd minute of the match. In the 31st minute, Olívio França made a precise shot to the right of Eduardo Baiano. Inter Gala's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. Eduardo Baiano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from César de Queiroz in the 34th minute of the match. 34 minutes into the game, César de Queiroz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Eduardo Baiano was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Fynn John showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edgar Souto, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Atlético Mineiro's Fynn John played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jaime Rodrigues in the 39th minute of play. If César de Queiroz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

Inter Gala's Heinz Stalder was substituted for Jaime Rodrigues. The wind increased when Olívio França made the kick off in the second half. If Tomé Brasil had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 61stth minute of the game César de Queiroz who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Inter Gala's Eduardo Baiano was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 62 minutes had been played when some careless play by Inter Gala's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Tomé Brasil was slow to take the kick. During this time Atlético Mineiro's players had a chance to rest. César de Queiroz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eduardo Baiano having to interfere. Eduardo Baiano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from César de Queiroz in the 68th minute of the match. Fynn John showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristóvão Ribeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. Fynn John made an important save on a dangerous shot by Richard Mendonça in the 70th minute. In the 74th minute Olívio França shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduardo Baiano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olívio França recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Inter Gala's Dênis Cavalcante was substituted for Alfredão Brasil. The supporters of Atlético Mineiro booed when Inter Gala was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dênis Cavalcante didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Inter Gala's zone, Olívio França stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eduardo Baiano came out of the goal and Olívio França tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 87th minute André Luís Best shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduardo Baiano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fynn John made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edgar Souto in the 89th minute. After a rather tough play, Inter Gala's Sérgio Novaes got a free kick in the 90th minute. After having played for 91 minutes, Walmyr Guimarães managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atlético Mineiro's supporters crossed their fingers, but Walmyr Guimarães was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match had gone on for 93 minutes, Cristóvão Ribeiro took a quick shot and it went in 3-1 without a chance for Fynn John to make any attempt to save it. In the 97th minute Richard Mendonça shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fynn John saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fynn John took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Richard Mendonça, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Atlético Mineiro were victorious despite being under pressure from Inter Gala for much of the match.
