Szentgotthárd's defense didn't have a chance, in the 7th minute, when Sidney Forbes scored to the left of an out of position Kornél Hajdú, making the score, 1-0. After having played for 11 minutes, Ryszard Prusinowski managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. C. A. Independiente's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ryszard Prusinowski was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Konstanty Dzierwa in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Farid Mondragón saved C. A. Independiente from getting behind. Kornél Hajdú made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kerry Sellers in the 14th minute. In the 17th minute Kerry Sellers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kornél Hajdú saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bálint Battai made in the 20th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by C. A. Independiente's Melvin Ruffin. Kornél Hajdú showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ryszard Prusinowski in the 21st minute of the match. Farid Mondragón made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Konstanty Dzierwa in the 22nd minute of play. C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by József Sallói in the 28th minute of play. In the 29th minute of the match Szentgotthárd got a corner. C. A. Independiente's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nistor Tastaman ran over to the corner to take the kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling József Sallói in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Farid Mondragón prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Farid Mondragón showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Károly Selymes, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Ryszard Prusinowski sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nistor Tastaman in the 44th minute of play forced C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sidney Forbes who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 47thth minute tested the skills of Kornél Hajdú when he managed to save the team from getting behind.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell József Sallói to make the kick off. C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save C. A. Independiente from getting a goal against them. Kornél Hajdú showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kerry Sellers in the 52nd minute of the match. Farid Mondragón made an important save on a dangerous shot by Konstanty Dzierwa in the 53rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Konstanty Dzierwa in the 56th minute of play forced C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 61 minutes into the match, Kerry Sellers notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Szentgotthárd's Kornél Hajdú. Kornél Hajdú was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Máté Marton hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. Kornél Hajdú made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kerry Sellers in the 78th minute of play. Farid Mondragón was a little too slow when István Hoffman got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 79th minute. The score was now 2-2. 82 minutes into the match, Szentgotthárd's goal looked a bit too open when Sid Chadwick came free, but Kornél Hajdú reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Konstanty Dzierwa came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Szentgotthárd fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Konstanty Dzierwa couldn't finish the play. C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 88th minute of the match, managed to save C. A. Independiente from getting a goal against them. Farid Mondragón made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when István Hoffman sent off a good shot on target. In the 92nd match minute, C. A. Independiente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sid Chadwick to maneuver through the defense. Farid Mondragón made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from József Sallói in the 93rd minute of play. Kornél Hajdú took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kerry Sellers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
With new strength the players walked out on the field for the first half of overtime. Sidney Forbes in C. A. Independiente was the one to initiate the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kerry Sellers in the 99th minute of play forced Szentgotthárd's goalkeeper Kornél Hajdú to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, C. A. Independiente's Qiu Fan Ran got a free kick in the 101st minute. When the match clock showed 103 minutes, the score became 2-3 when József Sallói sped through C. A. Independiente's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Farid Mondragón. The Szentgotthárd players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
