Eraldo Guzman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Allan Þrándsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Kristinn Ingimundarson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eraldo Guzman read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. In the 19th minute, Kristinn Ingimundarson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Iceland fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Ricardo Viscarra sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Petr Čech showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ricardo Viscarra, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. After 24 played minutes Honduras got a freekick which was hit by Misael Sigaran. In the 25th minute, Kristinn Ingimundarson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Eraldo Guzman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Allan Þrándsson in the 29th minute of the match. Kormákur Baldursson took the ball and in the 33 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eraldo Guzman. Eraldo Guzman dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. In the 39thth minute of the game Kristinn Ingimundarson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Honduras's Eraldo Guzman was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 40 played minutes Honduras got a freekick which was hit by Eliseo Bentos. Eraldo Guzman came out of the goal in the 41st minute to try and stop a shot by Iceland's Kristinn Ingimundarson. But to his dismay, Kristinn Ingimundarson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Petr Čech showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ricardo Viscarra in the 45th minute of the match. Rögnvaldur Bjarmarsson hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. In the 48th minute, Rögnvaldur Bjarmarsson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Honduras's Eliseo Bentos got a good chance for a goal in the 49th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Raúl Corpeño's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Petr Čech read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. Petr Čech showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raúl Corpeño, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Petr Čech stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ricardo Viscarra's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. Eraldo Guzman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kristinn Ingimundarson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kristinn Ingimundarson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Honduras's Eraldo Guzman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kristinn Ingimundarson in the 71st minute of play. Eraldo Guzman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kristinn Ingimundarson, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. The supporters of Honduras booed when Iceland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marbjörn Garpsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kristinn Ingimundarson in the 84th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Eraldo Guzman saved Honduras from getting behind. Kristinn Ingimundarson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kristinn Ingimundarson in the 89th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eraldo Guzman prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Honduras's zone, Kormákur Baldursson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eraldo Guzman came out of the goal and Kormákur Baldursson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 92nd minute, Austmar Hjaltason ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Eraldo Guzman was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Iceland walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
