Fausto Senna started the match with the kick off. In the 4th minute, AC Metropol's Eusébio Paraíba ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Otávio Massa. Otávio Massa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fausto Senna in the 7th minute of play forced AC Metropol's goalkeeper Mané Viana to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 10 minutes into the match, Danone CC's goal looked a bit too open when Eusébio Paraíba came free, but Otávio Massa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 13 minutes had been played when some careless play by Danone CC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luiz Eduardo Pinho was slow to take the kick. During this time AC Metropol's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on AC Metropol's corner Wilson de Salles fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Otávio Massa quite easily take care of the ball. Luiz Eduardo Pinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Otávio Massa having to interfere. Enéas Ribeiro scored 1-1 in the 17th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Mané Viana, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a defensive mix-up in AC Metropol's zone, Fausto Senna stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mané Viana came out of the goal and Fausto Senna tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Otávio Massa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eusébio Paraíba in the 28th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Fausto Senna's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mané Viana was relentless in the 30th minute of the game. In the 32nd minute, Clemente Recife ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Mané Viana was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. After some careless play in the AC Metropol defense, Enéas Ribeiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mané Viana. The AC Metropol fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mané Viana should have stopped the shot. Otávio Massa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jarbas Azevedo, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. The supporters of Danone CC booed when AC Metropol was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eduardo Favoretto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Eusébio Paraíba was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jarbas Azevedo in the 56th minute of play forced Danone CC's goalkeeper Otávio Massa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Danone CC getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Luís Eduardo de Alcântara hit a great ball. Luiz Eduardo Pinho took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 58th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Otávio Massa. Danone CC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Otávio Massa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Big Machado, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. In the 68th minute, 비 사 got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Danone CC made a substitution. In the 84th match minute, Danone CC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mané Novaes to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jarbas Azevedo in the 86th minute of play forced Danone CC's goalkeeper Otávio Massa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Danone CC's Otávio Massa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eusébio Paraíba in the 88th minute of play. In the 89th minute, Jarbas Azevedo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Otávio Massa was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-4. A collision led to AC Metropol getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Eduardo Favoretto hit a great ball. If Jens-Åke Kilstedt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Otávio Massa didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eusébio Paraíba went, in the 96th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-4 was the resulting score.
