The audience thought a goal was coming when Todd Swenson got free with Jessie Amos in the 4th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Todd Swenson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jessie Amos read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 5th minute of play. 9 minutes into the match, Charlotte FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ronnie Lott came free, but Jessie Amos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 14 minutes into the game, Johnathan Mohr was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Charlotte FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Creekers the free kick. In the 14th match minute, Charlotte FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Johnathan Mohr to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Creekers's Harvey Tyson slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Jessie Amos. That made the score 1-0 after 16 minutes of play. In the 19th minute, Johnathan Mohr left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Charlotte FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Tommy Cabrera blasted a shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jessie Amos having to make a save. Todd Swenson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Jessie Amos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Ronnie Lott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 30 minutes, Todd Swenson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Creekers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Todd Swenson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Marshall Irving's late challenge caught a Creekers's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marshall Irving helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Charlotte FC's Marshall Irving got a free kick in the 31st minute. Thanks to some nice moves Todd Swenson could shoot a difficult shot in the 33rd minute, which Jessie Amos however easily saved by the left post. In the 38th match minute, Creekers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Todd Swenson to maneuver through the defense. 41 minutes into the match, Creekers's goal looked a bit too open when Terence Quinn came free, but Hans Ramey reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 48th minute, Ronnie Lott got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Jessie Amos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. When Johnathan Mohr was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 73 minutes had been played.
