The audience thought a goal was coming when Ladislao Mazurkiewicz got free with Zé Augusto Peixoto in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 9 minutes into the match, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goal looked a bit too open when Márcio Medeiros came free, but Gianluigi Donnarumma reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 10 minutes into the match, Miguel Mendes notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Gianluigi Donnarumma. Gianluigi Donnarumma was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Dinei Silveira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Zé Augusto Peixoto made an important save on a dangerous shot by Leopoldo Sanches in the 19th minute. Ladislao Mazurkiewicz was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 20th minute. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. After 21 played minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul got a freekick which was hit by Vitinho Moreira. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Gianluigi Donnarumma played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Josué Pena in the 28th minute of play. Olavo Fonseca kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Leopoldo Sanches couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 30th minute. In the 41st minute, Josué Pena hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Vascogoianiense FC's Zé Augusto Peixoto got control of the ball when Joélson Paraibano tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vitinho Moreira in the 47th minute of play forced Vascogoianiense FC's goalkeeper Zé Augusto Peixoto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joélson Paraibano was the one to do the kick off. Dinei Silveira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gianluigi Donnarumma read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. After a rather tough play, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Vitinho Moreira got a free kick in the 58th minute. Miguel Mendes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Zé Augusto Peixoto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joélson Paraibano, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. After 65 played minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul got a freekick which was hit by Ladislao Mazurkiewicz. 69 minutes into the game, Vascogoianiense FC's Miguel Mendes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. In the 81st minute, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz made a precise shot to the right of Zé Augusto Peixoto.
