Uí Fergusa's supporters rose to their feet, but Adama Traore was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Brigid Rutherford breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. St. James Gate F.C.'s Brigid Rutherford played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adama Traore in the 12th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Pearse McWilliam's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sergio Rochet was relentless in the 21st minute of the game. In the 23rd minute José Maria Pitta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brigid Rutherford saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 39th minute, Wilson Severino got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Uí Fergusa were awarded a corner in the 59th minute after St. James Gate F.C.'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. José Maria Pitta took the corner. If Wilson Severino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 63 minutes into the game, Wilson Severino cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Brigid Rutherford was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. José Maria Pitta went to the cornerflag to take it. 96 minutes into the match, Hewney Kirby notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Uí Fergusa's Sergio Rochet. Sergio Rochet was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. St. James Gate F.C. had won after a very even match.
