Jesse McJames was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Smiddy Celts's Paddy Thomson got a free kick in the 29th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Phillip McKeochan got free with Brigid Rutherford in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Hewney Kirby came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the St. James Gate F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hewney Kirby couldn't finish the play. In the 40th minute, Bray Moran hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 42 minutes into the game, Graeme McRobie recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Brigid Rutherford. Graeme McRobie showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-1. The supporters of Smiddy Celts booed when St. James Gate F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Barnaby Bayes didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

The wind increased when Graeme McRobie made the kick off in the second half.
