Smiddy Celts's Jesse McJames played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hewney Kirby in the 9th minute of play. With an all-out effort, Smiddy Celts's Brigid Rutherford threw himself towards the right post 17 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Paddy Thomson, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Smiddy Celts's Jesse McJames played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hewney Kirby in the 22nd minute of play. Barnaby Bayes kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in St. James Gate F.C.'s zone, Connor Murdoson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Brigid Rutherford came out of the goal and Connor Murdoson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 26 minutes of play, St. James Gate F.C.'s Hewney Kirby made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jesse McJames was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Smiddy Celts's Paddy Thomson got a free kick in the 29th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Phillip McKeochan got free with Brigid Rutherford in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Hewney Kirby came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the St. James Gate F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hewney Kirby couldn't finish the play. In the 40th minute, Bray Moran hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 42 minutes into the game, Graeme McRobie recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Brigid Rutherford. Graeme McRobie showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pearse McWilliam in the 45th minute of play forced Smiddy Celts's goalkeeper Jesse McJames to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Smiddy Celts booed when St. James Gate F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Barnaby Bayes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Smiddy Celts's Phillip McKeochan got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.
The wind increased when Graeme McRobie made the kick off in the second half. After 51st play minutes Paddy Thomson shot 4-1, a short shot which went by Brigid Rutherford and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 54th match minute, Smiddy Celts was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paddy Thomson to maneuver through the defense. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Smiddy Celts fully deserved thier win.
