Irreal Madrid's Noel Braga played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Norberto da Silva in the 16th minute of play. 17 minutes into the match, Irreal Madrid's goal looked a bit too open when Luiz Fernando Arce came free, but Noel Braga reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 18th minute, Isaltino Pirani hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Noel Braga took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matías Guedes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 24 minutes of play, Irreal Madrid's Jânio Mendes made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ian Melo was left in no man's land by his defense there! Diogo Andrade's late challenge caught a Irreal Madrid's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Diogo Andrade helped the player get up and apologised. The referee ignored Irreal Madrid's protests and gave Szabolcs Csank a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Irreal Madrid getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Szabolcs Csank hit a great ball. Noel Braga was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Umberto Martins. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matías Guedes in the 52nd minute of play forced Irreal Madrid's goalkeeper Noel Braga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Noel Braga prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Afonsinho Mattos hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. Noel Braga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matías Guedes in the 81st minute of play. If Chiquinho Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 89th minute Alfredo Secco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ian Melo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
