Antonio Madeo was slow to take the kick. During this time Celta de Virgos's players had a chance to rest. After a rather tough play, Marquês de Herval's Zé Pedro de Amaral got a free kick in the 9th minute. If Arnoldo Florian had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 13 minutes into the match, Arnoldo Florian had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Oscar Freire. Marquês de Herval's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Arnoldo Florian was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Celta de Virgos's Arnoldo Florian got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 18th minute Arnoldo Florian shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oscar Freire saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 19 minutes into the match, Arnoldo Florian had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Oscar Freire. Roman Urbes made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Vinny Junior sent off a good shot on target. In the 25th match minute, Marquês de Herval was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luís Fabiano Clemente to maneuver through the defense. Marquês de Herval's Oscar Freire played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Casimiro Leizarraga in the 26th minute of play. In the 30thth minute of the game Arnoldo Florian who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Marquês de Herval's Oscar Freire was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 35th minute Luís Fabiano Clemente shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roman Urbes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 36 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goal looked a bit too open when Arnoldo Florian came free, but Oscar Freire reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 36 minutes into the game, Arnoldo Florian cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Oscar Freire was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Roque Silviano struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Oscar Freire didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Celta de Virgos. Marquês de Herval were awarded a corner in the 46th minute after Celta de Virgos's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Igor Guedes took the corner. It was a well-played corner which Manfredo Domingues managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Arnoldo Florian made the kick off in the second half. When Arnoldo Florian came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Celta de Virgos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arnoldo Florian couldn't finish the play. Celta de Virgos made a substitution. Filiberto Frantzes replaced Antonio Madeo. Luís Fabiano Clemente hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. After 63 played minutes Marquês de Herval got a freekick which was hit by Zé Pedro de Amaral. Roman Urbes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Fabiano Clemente in the 66th minute of play. Oscar Freire showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arnoldo Florian, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Luís Fabiano Clemente received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Roman Urbes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Arnoldo Florian in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Oscar Freire saved Marquês de Herval from getting behind. Arnoldo Florian blasted a shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Oscar Freire having to make a save. 84 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Oscar Freire had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Arnoldo Florian. 85 minutes into the game, Arnoldo Florian recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Oscar Freire. Arnoldo Florian showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-4. A collision led to Marquês de Herval getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Manfredo Domingues hit a great ball. Filiberto Frantzes kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Celta de Virgos had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
