Fernandinho Cearense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Freddy Mercurio made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Benigno Elija in the 22nd minute of play forced Grêmio 20 Julho's goalkeeper Jonathan Zanette to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Gerardo Gartzea fell near the penalty area in the 26th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Crottos Crotters F.C.'s protests and gave Gerardo Gartzea a yellow card for diving instead. Freddy Mercurio had in the 27thth minute some difficulties stopping Gilmar Romero's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Gilmar Romero scored 1-1 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Freddy Mercurio, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 32 minutes into the match, Grêmio 20 Julho's goal looked a bit too open when Froilan Paublo came free, but Jonathan Zanette reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jonathan Zanette made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Big Puiu in the 36th minute of play. 38 minutes into the game, Gilmar Romero recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Freddy Mercurio. Gilmar Romero showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Through an outstanding action, after 53 minutes, Jonathan Zanette successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Fernandinho Cearense's late challenge caught a Crottos Crotters F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
