It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Lanny Gilmore kicked off to start the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lanny Gilmore got free with Teodoro Maurito in the 4th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 6th minute, Lanny Gilmore left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Santos FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. 13 minutes into the game, Mike Richardson recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Teodoro Maurito. Mike Richardson showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. Lanny Gilmore in the 16thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Teodoro Maurito, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Lanny Gilmore who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 16thth minute tested the skills of Teodoro Maurito when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Lanny Gilmore received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Teodoro Maurito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rolando Lentilha struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Aaron Smallwood didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chesterfield. Manuel Moco charged in rather forcefully in the 27th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Manuel Moco the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Lanny Gilmore might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Teodoro Maurito. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lanny Gilmore ran back to his position shaking his head. 29 minutes into the match, Chesterfield's goalkeeper Teodoro Maurito had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lanny Gilmore. After 33rd play minutes Lanny Gilmore shot 3-0, a short shot which went by Teodoro Maurito and just under the crossbar into goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lanny Gilmore in the 36th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Teodoro Maurito prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Pompílio Barreiros made in the 39th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Alda Malafaia however managed to control. Santos FC's Terence Nicholas managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Pompílio Barreiros in the 46 minute of the game. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for David Cruz to strike the kick off in the second half. Lanny Gilmore received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Teodoro Maurito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Lanny Gilmore came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Santos FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lanny Gilmore couldn't finish the play. After having played for 56 minutes, Tyron Velasquez managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santos FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tyron Velasquez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lanny Gilmore might have been able to make a better finish in the 57th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Teodoro Maurito. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lanny Gilmore ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 57th minute Lanny Gilmore shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Teodoro Maurito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lanny Gilmore sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Santos FC's Terence Nicholas quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Lanny Gilmore received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Teodoro Maurito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Lanny Gilmore's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Teodoro Maurito was relentless in the 80th minute of the game. 82 minutes into the game, Pompílio Barreiros threw the ball into play from the sideline. Santos FC's Tyron Velasquez quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. In the 85th minute, Manuel Moco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 87 minutes into the game, Santos FC's Lanny Gilmore nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Teodoro Maurito made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 6-0. Teodoro Maurito showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tyron Velasquez, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. 94 minutes into the match, Chesterfield's goal looked a bit too open when Tyron Velasquez came free, but Teodoro Maurito reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 96 played minutes, Santos FC's Tory Weeks shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Teodoro Maurito came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Santos FC reached it. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Santos FC fully deserved thier win.
