Dorio Laje showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Victor Hugo Aristizábal in the 27th minute of the match. Paskal Baragaño made in the 33rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by U21 Colombia's Zeru Mezquita. An unexpectedly hard shot by Victor Hugo Aristizábal in the 38th minute of play forced U21 Venezuela's goalkeeper Dorio Laje to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of U21 Venezuela booed when U21 Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victor Hugo Aristizábal didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Colombia's zone, Roger Bannister stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. U21 Colombia's Koldobika Aponte played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roger Bannister in the 47th minute of play.

U21 Colombia's Bernardo Sigler was substituted for Zeru Mezquita. U21 Colombia's Jurdan Pinillas was substituted for Berbiz Elguea. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Roger Bannister made a kick off. After 58 played minutes U21 Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Xurde Buiza. Bonifaco Sovera took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 59th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dorio Laje. U21 Venezuela's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. U21 Venezuela's Dorio Laje played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bonifaco Sovera in the 64th minute of play. 68 minutes into the match, U21 Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Bonifaco Sovera came free, but Dorio Laje reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Roger Bannister could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Koldobika Aponte made a huge save. U21 Venezuela made a substitution. Iaki Albizua charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Iaki Albizua the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 78th match minute, U21 Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Iaki Albizua to maneuver through the defense. In the 85th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Venezuela's goalkeeper Dorio Laje, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, U21 Venezuela's Iaki Albizua got a free kick in the 86th minute. Koldobika Aponte showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roger Bannister, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The U21 Colombia fans cheered their team off the field, for while U21 Venezuela had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
