In the 34th minute, Steve Triganza fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Gus Bösch, passed just outside the right post. In the 37th minute, J.C. Mijatović made a precise shot to the right of Clayton Gerada. U21 Malta's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Simone Ritieni in the 41st minute of play forced U21 Malta's goalkeeper Clayton Gerada to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

Steve Triganza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. U21 Switzerland's Popcorn Knoblauch was substituted for Ronaldo-Luís De La Rosa-Mora. U21 Switzerland made a substitution. Salomo Montandon replaced Fred Stutz. U21 Malta's Nigel Apap was substituted for Joaquin Phoenix. In the 84th minute, Enrique Freitag made a precise shot to the right of Clayton Gerada. Gus Bösch was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. U21 Malta succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though U21 Switzerland had controlled the match.
