In the 8th minute Petteri Hassinen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vaclovas Jurkus saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. U21 Finland's Leo Uhlbäck played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mantvydas Bekeris in the 14th minute of play. Petteri Hassinen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vaclovas Jurkus having to interfere. Vaclovas Jurkus came out of the goal in the 22nd minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Finland's Adolf Jesus. But to his dismay, Adolf Jesus quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Vaclovas Jurkus showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Armas Heinola, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. When Sigitas Purvinis fell near the penalty area in the 28th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Lithuania's protests and gave Sigitas Purvinis a yellow card for diving instead. After 28 played minutes U21 Lithuania got a freekick which was hit by Sigitas Purvinis. Petteri Hassinen scored 0-2 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Vaclovas Jurkus, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jonas Mikuckis got free with Leo Uhlbäck in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. U21 Finland's Leo Uhlbäck proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Finland from getting a goal against them. A nice corner shot did that Mantvydas Bekeris got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Leo Uhlbäck quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Eugenijus Gureckas's late challenge caught a U21 Finland's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eugenijus Gureckas helped the player get up and apologised. 45 minutes into the match, U21 Lithuania's goal looked a bit too open when Armas Heinola came free, but Vaclovas Jurkus reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adolf Jesus in the 47th minute of play forced U21 Lithuania's goalkeeper Vaclovas Jurkus to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vaclovas Jurkus made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adolf Jesus in the 47th minute of play. 0-3 became the score in the 47th minute when Adolf Jesus elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Petteri Hassinen to make the kick off. If Adolf Jesus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vaclovas Jurkus showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adolf Jesus in the 58th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lukas Liaudanskas in the 60th minute of play forced U21 Finland's goalkeeper Leo Uhlbäck to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vaclovas Jurkus made an important save on a dangerous shot by Petteri Hassinen in the 67th minute. 70 minutes into the match, U21 Finland's goal looked a bit too open when Aloyzas Valys came free, but Leo Uhlbäck reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Finland's Taisto Bruun was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Vaclovas Jurkus in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After some careless play in the U21 Finland defense, Aloyzas Valys kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Leo Uhlbäck. The U21 Finland fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leo Uhlbäck should have stopped the shot. After 93rd play minutes Adolf Jesus shot 2-4, a short shot which went by Vaclovas Jurkus and just under the crossbar into goal.
