But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daron Joseph couldn't finish the play. Zamalek FC's Rhys Dimmock proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 28th minute of the match, managed to save Zamalek FC from getting a goal against them. In the 30th minute Zack Grier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sorin Slătineanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reese Otto in the 33rd minute of play forced Margonin SA's goalkeeper Sorin Slătineanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sorin Slătineanu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daron Joseph, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mugurel Balaeț hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Botyo Dimiev got free with Rhys Dimmock in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 41st minute Mugurel Balaeț shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sorin Slătineanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 44th minute, Zack Grier ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sorin Slătineanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. After the first half Zamalek FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The supporters of Margonin SA booed when Zamalek FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Davis Duff didn't get a good kick on the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 60 minutes, Sorin Slătineanu successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Zack Grier could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 63rd minute of the match, but Sorin Slătineanu made a huge save. In the 65th minute of the match Zamalek FC got a corner. Margonin SA's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Davis Duff ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Zamalek FC's corner Filip Stăniloaie fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Sorin Slătineanu quite easily take care of the ball. 66 minutes into the match, Zamalek FC's goal looked a bit too open when Hieronim Rykaczewski came free, but Rhys Dimmock reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 68 minutes into the match, Margonin SA's goal looked a bit too open when Reese Otto came free, but Sorin Slătineanu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 69 minutes into the game, Zack Grier cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Zamalek FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zack Grier was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With an all-out effort, Zamalek FC's Sorin Slătineanu threw himself towards the right post 94 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Zack Grier, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Zack Grier took the ball and in the 94 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Sorin Slătineanu. Sorin Slătineanu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-6.
