After 29 played minutes Borussia Dortmund got a freekick which was hit by Ferdinand Schlegel. In the 30th minute Cristian Quirino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dieter Eberle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Espigão Steamrollers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Denílson Abraão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 89 played minutes Borussia Dortmund got a freekick which was hit by Ronny Gantenbein. In the 94th minute, Borussia Dortmund's Chris Lo Russo seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Chris Lo Russo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Borussia Dortmund protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Chris Lo Russo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After a rather tough play, Borussia Dortmund's Chris Lo Russo got a free kick in the 94th minute. Borussia Dortmund were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
