If Lucila Escobar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match had gone on for 20 minutes, Dirk Reitsma put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Alejandro Landa. In the 23rd minute Oton Contreras shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zé Pedro Valadares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Ágætis Byrjun were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Ágætis Byrjun made a substitution. Katarínus Reitsma replaced Ton Kort. After a defensive mix-up in Nueva Adalucia's zone, Katarínus Reitsma stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alejandro Landa came out of the goal and Katarínus Reitsma tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nueva Adalucia's Alejandro Landa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dirk Reitsma in the 70th minute of play. In the 73rd minute Patrick van der Valk shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alejandro Landa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
