Cafu Branco ran over to the corner to take the kick. Daniel Marquez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Clemente Vasconcelos made a huge save. Dida Mesquita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Celsinho Capixaba having to interfere. Daniel Marquezs short, quick shot in the 19thth minute got Clemente Vasconcelos to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Clemente Vasconcelos made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Daniel Marquez sent off a good shot on target. 21 minutes into the match, Dida Mesquita had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Celsinho Capixaba. Vila Nova GO's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dida Mesquita was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Mikkel Lilleland might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Celsinho Capixaba. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mikkel Lilleland ran back to his position shaking his head. After 26 played minutes Paysandu got a freekick which was hit by Mikkel Lilleland. Mikkel Lilleland received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Celsinho Capixaba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cafu Branco blasted a shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Clemente Vasconcelos having to make a save. The supporters of Paysandu booed when Vila Nova GO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Betinho Meireles didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fiori Vianna during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Clemente Vasconcelos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Vítor Souto in the 64th minute of the match. Daniel Marquez took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Clemente Vasconcelos. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Marquez couldn't finish the play.
