After 6 played minutes Scarlet Speedster got a freekick which was hit by Leonardo Pombal. Carlos Fernando Freire hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. When Jano Paiva came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the Várzea F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jano Paiva couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Várzea F.C. getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Vivaldo Bueno hit a great ball. After 20 minutes, Célio Nóbrega mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Scarlet Speedster and the Várzea F.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 21st minute of the match, Luiz Guilherme Barreto sent away a good long shot that could have become a goal, but Umberto de Salles showed an example of his skillful tending and made the save just under the crossbar. If Leonardo Pombal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Edgard Travassos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Umberto de Salles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Scarlet Speedster's Umberto de Salles got control of the ball when Luiz Guilherme Barreto tried to sneak it across the goal line. Reinaldo Queiroz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cafu Toledo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 40 minutes into the match, Scarlet Speedster's goalkeeper Umberto de Salles had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edgard Travassos. Jano Paiva struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Umberto de Salles didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Várzea F.C.. The supporters of Scarlet Speedster booed when Várzea F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vivaldo Bueno didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gilson Neves's late challenge caught a Scarlet Speedster's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gilson Neves helped the player get up and apologised. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Luiz Guilherme Barreto made the kick off in the second half. In the 50th match minute, Várzea F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vivaldo Bueno to maneuver through the defense. 53 minutes had been played when some careless play by Várzea F.C.'s defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Charles Moura was slow to take the kick. During this time Scarlet Speedster's players had a chance to rest. Charles Moura made a great header on Scarlet Speedster's corner, it was just that Várzea F.C.'s Reinaldo Queiroz managed to reach the ball for a save.
