Claudinei Salles charged in rather forcefully in the 2nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Claudinei Salles the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Jovens Democratas MZC's Claudinei Salles got a free kick in the 2nd minute. 4 minutes into the match, Jovens Democratas MZC's goal looked a bit too open when Jailson de Carvalho came free, but Marquinhos Diniz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Horácio Simão sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Nova Iguaçu MZFC booed when Jovens Democratas MZC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chico de Toledo didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 21st minute, Chico de Toledo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Jovens Democratas MZC's Allan Baiano got a free kick in the 23rd minute. In the 26th match minute, Jovens Democratas MZC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Júlio Guerra to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 27 minutes, Dudu Queiroz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Nova Iguaçu MZFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dudu Queiroz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilson Vidal in the 31st minute of play forced Jovens Democratas MZC's goalkeeper Marquinhos Diniz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 32nd minute Nova Iguaçu MZFC were awarded a corner. Dudu Queiroz went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Nova Iguaçu MZFC's corner Jailson de Carvalho fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Marquinhos Diniz quite easily take care of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Célio de Sousa got free with Mauro de Salles in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Wilian Antunes to strike the kick off in the second half. When Dudu Queiroz was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 50 minutes had been played. After 56 minutes, Wilson Vidal made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Jovens Democratas MZC's Marquinhos Diniz tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Nova Iguaçu MZFC made a substitution. Guilherme Mandrak replaced Luizinho Neves. After 64 played minutes Nova Iguaçu MZFC got a freekick which was hit by Guilherme Mandrak. Jovens Democratas MZC's Aílton Sousa was substituted for Chico de Toledo. The supporters of Nova Iguaçu MZFC booed when Jovens Democratas MZC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emanuel Branco didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Nova Iguaçu MZFC defense, Wilian Antunes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mauro de Salles. The Nova Iguaçu MZFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mauro de Salles should have stopped the shot. Valdemar Guerra might have been able to make a better finish in the 83rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mauro de Salles. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Valdemar Guerra ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aílton Sousa in the 89th minute of play forced Nova Iguaçu MZFC's goalkeeper Mauro de Salles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 93rd minute Valdemar Guerra shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mauro de Salles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
