Cosme Fernendo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Paulo Godoi went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. In the 18th minute, Erik Lund hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Paulo Godoi blasted a shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Cosme Fernendo having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Godoi in the 20th minute of play forced River's goalkeeper Cosme Fernendo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Paulo Godoi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Cosme Fernendo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo Godoi in the 22nd minute of the match. 25 minutes into the match, Paulo Godoi notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of River's Cosme Fernendo. Cosme Fernendo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Cosme Fernendo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Godoi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Damian Gau fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored River's protests and gave Damian Gau a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Palestra do Interior booed when River was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Damian Gau didn't get a good kick on the ball. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 37 minutes, Modesto Intxixu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the River and the Palestra do Interior players grew even worse after the yellow card. When Paulo Godoi came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Palestra do Interior fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Paulo Godoi couldn't finish the play. If 吴洲坚 had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 43rd minute, one of River:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for River. Paulo Godoi shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. The River players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Palestra do Interior were winning 0-5.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Erik Lund to strike the kick off in the second half. Niclas Danielsson went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Jorginho Ferreira heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. 84 minutes into the match, River's goalkeeper Cosme Fernendo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vitório Lago. In the 86th minute the ball was on its way in behind River's goalkeeper Cosme Fernendo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Vitório Lago blasted a shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Cosme Fernendo having to make a save. Cosme Fernendo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vitório Lago in the 94th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Vitório Lago kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Cosme Fernendo. That made the score 0-8 in the 97 minute of play. The River fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Palestra do Interior were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
