The audience was convinced that Anestis Kotsopoulos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mikolaj Jerzyk was relentless in the 5th minute of the game. After 7 minutes Newcastle United's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Maximilian Henning who took care of the corner kick. August Hoffmanns stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Thomas Vollmar's shot from short distance in the 8th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Anestis Kotsopoulos in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mikolaj Jerzyk saved Newcastle United from getting behind. With his leg August Hoffmanns managed to avoid a goal in the 13thth minute, when Newcastle United's Thomas Vollmar fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. August Hoffmanns made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Thomas Vollmar sent off a good shot on target. Newcastle United's Mikolaj Jerzyk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anestis Kotsopoulos in the 17th minute of play. After 18 minutes Newcastle United's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Maximilian Henning who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Rot-Weiss-Essen's Maximilian Henning to fire away a dangerous shot which Mikolaj Jerzyk despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Tadeusz Pstrongowski kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. After having played for 22 minutes, Thomas Vollmar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newcastle United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Thomas Vollmar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 30 minutes had been played when some careless play by Rot-Weiss-Essen's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Zé Paulo Zonta was slow to take the kick. During this time Newcastle United's players had a chance to rest. Newcastle United's Kajetan Kochniarczyk was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but August Hoffmanns in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 31 minutes into the game, Thomas Vollmar lined in a short shot 1-0 behind a frustrated August Hoffmanns. Thomas Vollmar in the 35thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of August Hoffmanns, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Newcastle United's Thomas Vollmar managed to work through Rot-Weiss-Essen's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Thomas Vollmar dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. 1-1 became the score in the 37th minute when Anestis Kotsopoulos elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. In the 39th minute of the match, Pankracy Malicki got a very nice opportunity to score, but August Hoffmanns was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Mikolaj Jerzyk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mesut Özil, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Kajetan Kochniarczyk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thomas Vollmar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but August Hoffmanns made a huge save. 47 minutes into the match, Newcastle United's goal looked a bit too open when Hugo Haupt came free, but Mikolaj Jerzyk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 67thth minute of the game Thomas Vollmar who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rot-Weiss-Essen's August Hoffmanns was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 72nd minute Thomas Vollmar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but August Hoffmanns saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Thomas Vollmar in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck August Hoffmanns prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Thomas Vollmar's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but August Hoffmanns was relentless in the 83rd minute of the game. When Kryspin Banach fell near the penalty area in the 90th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rot-Weiss-Essen's protests and gave Kryspin Banach a yellow card for diving instead. August Hoffmanns went to the wrong direction when Zé Paulo Zonta was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. August Hoffmanns stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Thomas Vollmar's shot from short distance in the 93rd minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Rot-Weiss-Essen's Anestis Kotsopoulos slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Mikolaj Jerzyk. That made the score 1-3 after 95 minutes of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Anestis Kotsopoulos in the 98th minute of play forced Newcastle United's goalkeeper Mikolaj Jerzyk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
