The referee ignored CERRO PORTEÑO's protests and gave Andres-Sebastian Kanchelskis a yellow card for diving instead. Natanael de Godoi made in the 29th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Christian Passos. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luisito Antequera got free with Cãlin Damaschin in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andres-Sebastian Kanchelskis in the 35th minute of play forced Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Edward Spets charged in rather forcefully in the 36th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Edward Spets the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Edward Spets hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. The supporters of CERRO PORTEÑO booed when Montevideo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bray McJon didn't get a good kick on the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Andres-Sebastian Kanchelskis to make the kick off. CERRO PORTEÑO's Cãlin Damaschin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luisito Antequera in the 81st minute of play. If Luisito Antequera had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros got control of the ball when Andres-Sebastian Kanchelskis tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bray McJon in the 93rd minute of play forced CERRO PORTEÑO's goalkeeper Cãlin Damaschin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. CERRO PORTEÑO's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
