In the 7th minute Guilherme Heidemann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hans van der Meijde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hans van der Meijde took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from César de Godoi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. César de Godoi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hans van der Meijde having to interfere. The supporters of Real Chelsea booed when Vasco FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guilherme Heidemann didn't get a good kick on the ball. Franklin Bittencourt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfie Downing in the 24th minute of play. Through an outstanding action, after 30 minutes, Franklin Bittencourt successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 36 minutes into the match, Vasco FC's goalkeeper Franklin Bittencourt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alfie Downing. Real Chelsea's Hans van der Meijde played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Moise Zgrăbunţa in the 40th minute of play. With his leg Franklin Bittencourt managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when Real Chelsea's Alfie Downing fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. César de Godoi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hans van der Meijde having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Alfie Downing was the one to do the kick off. Vasco FC's Franklin Bittencourt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gus Weir in the 51st minute of play. After having played for 52 minutes, Gus Weir managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Real Chelsea's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gus Weir was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A hard shot 55 in the game by Alim Akkaya from a close distance when the talented Hans van der Meijde managed to make a qualified save. Real Chelsea's players were relieved. A collision led to Real Chelsea getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Marty Harland hit a great ball. Virgílio Custódio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 58th minute of the match, but Hans van der Meijde made a huge save. 60 minutes into the match, Real Chelsea's goal looked a bit too open when Guilherme Heidemann came free, but Hans van der Meijde reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. César de Godoi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Hans van der Meijde tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hans van der Meijde showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Guilherme Heidemann in the 67th minute of the match. Guilherme Heidemann charged in rather forcefully in the 69th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Guilherme Heidemann the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Vasco FC booed when Real Chelsea was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Braulio Abel didn't get a good kick on the ball. Real Chelsea's Barney Yeo was substituted for Dustin Schellander. In the 81st minute, Braulio Abel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Alfie Downing received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Real Chelsea's zone, Moise Zgrăbunţa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hans van der Meijde came out of the goal and Moise Zgrăbunţa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 90 minutes into the match, César de Godoi had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Hans van der Meijde. Real Chelsea's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that César de Godoi was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The Vasco FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Vasco FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
