The supporters of Palestra do Interior booed when Castanheiro SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luisinho Seco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Doni Seco was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 5th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Nelsinho Marinho. After 5 played minutes Palestra do Interior got a freekick which was hit by Nelson Xavier. The crowd rose to their feet as Ronaldo Pirani kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Doni Seco. That made the score 1-0 in the 11 minute of play. 16 minutes into the game, Júnior Alagoano was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Castanheiro SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Palestra do Interior the free kick. After a rather tough play, Castanheiro SC's Júnior Alagoano got a free kick in the 16th minute. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Júnior Alagoano in the 23rd minute of play. The supporters of Castanheiro SC booed when Palestra do Interior was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nelsinho Marinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nelson Xavier got free with Doni Seco in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Marco Bezerra hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. Castanheiro SC made a substitution. Arnaldo Lago replaced Basílio Toledo. After a rather tough play, Castanheiro SC's Marco Bezerra got a free kick in the 39th minute. Luisão de Medeiros kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

After 52 minutes, Serafim Cearense mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Castanheiro SC and the Palestra do Interior players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 52nd match minute, Castanheiro SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Serafim Cearense to maneuver through the defense. Nelsinho Marinho took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 53rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Doni Seco. Castanheiro SC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Nelson Xavier struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Doni Seco didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Palestra do Interior. When Luisinho Seco fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Castanheiro SC's protests and gave Luisinho Seco a yellow card for diving instead. Nelsinho Marinho, 60 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ronaldo Pinho went, in the 71st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Castanheiro SC's Jailson Esteves was substituted for Arnaldo Lago. Castanheiro SC's Doni Seco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nelsinho Marinho in the 85th minute of play. Doni Seco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ronaldo Pirani, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
