Kalle Kvick showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Johannes Torstensson, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When Carl Karlsson fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Linköpings AIK's protests and gave Carl Karlsson a yellow card for diving instead. Kalle Kvick came out of the goal in the 54th minute to try and stop a shot by Linköpings AIK's Arvid Carlsson. But to his dismay, Arvid Carlsson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-2. After some careless play in the Hartlepool defense, Arvid Carlsson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Kalle Kvick. The Hartlepool fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kalle Kvick should have stopped the shot. In the 59thth minute of the game Arvid Carlsson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hartlepool's Kalle Kvick was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Staffan Lind stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Fabian Fager's shot from short distance in the 86th minute. 91 minutes into the match, Linköpings AIK's goalkeeper Staffan Lind had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bengt Blixt. 92 minutes into the match, Linköpings AIK's goal looked a bit too open when Ralf Rask came free, but Staffan Lind reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 97 minutes into the game, Linköpings AIK's Greger Lenberg nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Kalle Kvick made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-2. Hartlepool's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
