Erich Pitten showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lukas Podolski, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Erich Pitten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Reşit Selman in the 34th minute of play. The supporters of FC 08 Brühl booed when SSV Ulm 1846 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Holder Zocholl didn't get a good kick on the ball. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Manfred Steiner to make the kick off. After some careless play in the SSV Ulm 1846 defense, Reşit Selman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Erich Pitten. The SSV Ulm 1846 fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Erich Pitten should have stopped the shot. Manfred Steiner's late challenge caught a FC 08 Brühl's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Manfred Steiner helped the player get up and apologised. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Johannes Bernlöhr in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Erich Pitten saved SSV Ulm 1846 from getting behind. Reşit Selman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erich Pitten having to interfere. After a rather tough play, SSV Ulm 1846's Holder Zocholl got a free kick in the 78th minute. Erich Pitten made a fantastic save in the 79th minute, when Reşit Selman sent off a good shot on target. Erich Pitten took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leon Ritter, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 84th minute, Leon Ritter left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC 08 Brühl fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-8. When FC 08 Brühl's Mihnea Maghiran in the 88th minute got a chance for a shot 88th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
