In the 26th minute, Sorci Viola's Alberto Carozza seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Alberto Carozza the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Sorci Viola protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Alberto Carozza had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. A collision led to Sorci Viola getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Alberto Carozza hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Beppe Zoff in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kevan Grange saved Les diables noirs from getting behind. After some careless play in the Les diables noirs defense, Beppe Zoff kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Kevan Grange. The Les diables noirs fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kevan Grange should have stopped the shot. In the 43rd minute Beppe Zoff shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kevan Grange saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Beppe Zoff received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Kevan Grange tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The supporters of Sorci Viola booed when Les diables noirs was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joey Weill didn't get a good kick on the ball.
