In the 2nd match minute, FC CSKA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Emanuil Belevski to maneuver through the defense. Adolf Rogov sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Феникс Санкт-Петербург booed when FC CSKA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dafin Papanchev didn't get a good kick on the ball. 19 minutes into the match, Marat Bolshakov notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of FC CSKA's Oleg Ubinov. Oleg Ubinov took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adolf Rogov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Qiu Zheng Ning came out of the goal in the 34th minute to try and stop a shot by FC CSKA's Yancho Dzhongarski. But to his dismay, Yancho Dzhongarski quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. FC CSKA's Oleg Ubinov played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tudor Sălcudeanu in the 37th minute of play. After 42 minutes, Ikonom Balarev mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC CSKA and the Феникс Санкт-Петербург players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 47th minute of the match, Varban Netzov got a very nice opportunity to score, but Qiu Zheng Ning was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Dafin Papanchev fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Qiu Zheng Ning having to interfere. 86 minutes had been played when some careless play by Феникс Санкт-Петербург's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Doychin Chervenkov was slow to take the kick. During this time FC CSKA's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Doychin Chervenkov got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Qiu Zheng Ning quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After 88 played minutes Феникс Санкт-Петербург got a freekick which was hit by Josue Ayala. The attack was good, but when Varban Netzov in the 91st minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Феникс Санкт-Петербург succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though FC CSKA had controlled the match.
