The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When the match clock showed 4 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Chiquinho Alcântara sped through GRÊMIO's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Carlos Miguel. Carlos Miguel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chiquinho Alcântara, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arí Terra in the 9th minute of play forced Pesqueira City's goalkeeper Ivo de Moraes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Pesqueira City's Dino Braga got a free kick in the 13th minute. After a rather tough play, Pesqueira City's William Negri got a free kick in the 14th minute. Valdemar Nascimento's late challenge caught a GRÊMIO's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Valdemar Nascimento helped the player get up and apologised. In the 16th match minute, Pesqueira City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valdemar Nascimento to maneuver through the defense. In the 18th minute, Sandrinho Luz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 21 minutes into the match, Arí Terra dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ivo de Moraes, 1-1. In the 24th minute, GRÊMIO's Roberto Fontes dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-1. After a defensive mix-up in GRÊMIO's zone, Dráuzio Sergipano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlos Miguel came out of the goal and Dráuzio Sergipano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Roberto Fontes hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dráuzio Sergipano in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlos Miguel saved GRÊMIO from getting behind. 47 minutes into the match, Pesqueira City's goal looked a bit too open when Roberto Fontes came free, but Ivo de Moraes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Júlio Carneiro hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Arí Terra to make the kick off. Pesqueira City were furious when Tomé Donatello was red carded, 52 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arí Terra in the 57th minute of play forced Pesqueira City's goalkeeper Ivo de Moraes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dráuzio Sergipano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 60th minute João Ceresso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivo de Moraes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. GRÊMIO's Carlos Miguel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save GRÊMIO from getting a goal against them. In the 66th minute, Roberto Fontes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ivo de Moraes was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. In the 72nd minute, Arí Terra made a precise shot to the right of Ivo de Moraes. Pesqueira City's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-1. 81 minutes into the game, GRÊMIO's Arí Terra nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ivo de Moraes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 6-1. Ivo de Moraes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Ceresso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Geovanni Maia came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the GRÊMIO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Geovanni Maia couldn't finish the play. If João Ceresso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Roberto Fontes kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. 97 minutes into the game, Arí Terra cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 7-1. Ivo de Moraes was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. GRÊMIO walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
