Gombal Retana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Barros Abascal in the 10th minute of the match. 14 minutes into the game, Borussia Dortmund's Fernandez Quintairos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nery Pumpido made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reimundo Olarria in the 19th minute of play forced Nacional Potosí's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 23 minutes into the game, Fernandez Quintairos cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Nery Pumpido was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 28 minutes had been played when some careless play by Nacional Potosí's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Henrique Lampez was slow to take the kick. During this time Borussia Dortmund's players had a chance to rest. A well-hit corner resulted in Reimundo Olarria heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. After 30 played minutes Nacional Potosí got a freekick which was hit by Papo Abalos. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernandez Quintairos in the 33rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nery Pumpido prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reimundo Olarria in the 35th minute of play forced Nacional Potosí's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 36 minutes into the match, Fernandez Quintairos had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nery Pumpido. Nacional Potosí's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fernandez Quintairos was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. In the 38th match minute, Nacional Potosí was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Papo Abalos to maneuver through the defense. In the 39th minute, Fernandez Quintairos left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Borussia Dortmund fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-4. When Barros Abascal came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Nacional Potosí fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Barros Abascal couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fernandez Quintairos in the 47th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nery Pumpido saved Nacional Potosí from getting behind.

In the 56th minute Barros Abascal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gombal Retana saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Santikurtz Paza in the 58th minute of play forced Nacional Potosí's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gombal Retana made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Barros Abascal in the 80th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andres Torrico in the 84th minute of play forced Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Gombal Retana to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 85 minutes Borussia Dortmund's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Cordeara Abenda who took care of the corner kick. Nacional Potosí's Cordeara Abenda was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Gombal Retana in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After 89 minutes, Cresitobalo Abarca mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Nacional Potosí and the Borussia Dortmund players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Nacional Potosí was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cresitobalo Abarca didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Nacional Potosí getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Lapurdi Abendano hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fernandez Quintairos got free with Nery Pumpido in the 91st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Borussia Dortmund's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
