In the 7th minute Giorgos Samoladas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aurelio Epifani saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aurelio Epifani made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dimitris Kapopoulos in the 8th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Gladiator FC's zone, Giorgos Samoladas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aurelio Epifani came out of the goal and Giorgos Samoladas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Beppe Rivera charged in rather forcefully in the 11th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Beppe Rivera the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 12th minute Alexandros Vikelidis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aurelio Epifani saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aurelio Epifani stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Giorgos Samoladas's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. After 20 minutes of play, Sheriff's Alexandros Vikelidis made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Aurelio Epifani was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sheriff's goalkeeper Manos Melogiannis, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sheriff's Manos Melogiannis proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to save Sheriff from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Beppe Rivera in the 35th minute of play forced Sheriff's goalkeeper Manos Melogiannis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Manos Melogiannis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Beppe Rivera in the 35th minute of play. The corner led Gladiator FC's Fabiano Tatangelo to fire away a dangerous shot which Manos Melogiannis despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. A collision led to Gladiator FC getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Fedele Nardi hit a great ball. Antonello Cipriani hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. If Stamatis Paspalakis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Alexandros Vikelidis to strike the kick off in the second half. Zinon Psikos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aurelio Epifani having to interfere. With a little luck, Gladiator FC's Aurelio Epifani got control of the ball when Giorgos Samoladas tried to sneak it across the goal line. Gladiator FC made a substitution. Angelo Marchegiani replaced Antonello Cipriani. In the 60th minute Sheriff were awarded a corner. Sakis Panagoulis went to the cornerflag to take it. Sheriff's Dimitris Kapopoulos was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Aurelio Epifani in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dimitris Kapopoulos in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Aurelio Epifani saved Gladiator FC from getting behind. Aurelio Epifani showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alexandros Vikelidis in the 61st minute of the match. In the 68th minute, Francesco Tabacco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Aurelio Epifani made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dimitris Kapopoulos in the 71st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Gladiator FC's zone, Alexandros Vikelidis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aurelio Epifani came out of the goal and Alexandros Vikelidis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Giorgos Samoladas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aurelio Epifani was a little too slow when Alexandros Vikelidis got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 78th minute. The score was now 0-2. Apostolikas Giannaros hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. A collision led to Gladiator FC getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Cristiano Tatangelo hit a great ball. Gladiator FC's Aurelio Epifani played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alexandros Vikelidis in the 86th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Gladiator FC's Fabiano Tatangelo got a free kick in the 87th minute. The supporters of Sheriff booed when Gladiator FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ennio Pizzi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Manos Melogiannis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fabiano Tatangelo in the 95th minute of play. The Sheriff supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Sheriff would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
