The audience was convinced that Primo Sans's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Róbson Netto was relentless in the 3rd minute of the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jorge de Senna during the 6th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Academia B.F. booed when Atlético Mineiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge de Senna didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Wiliam Carioca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 11th minute, Primo Sans made a precise shot to the right of Róbson Netto. Atlético Mineiro's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Primo Sans could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Róbson Netto made a huge save. In the 15th match minute, Atlético Mineiro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vitório Fonseca to maneuver through the defense. Academia B.F.'s Primo Sans got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 21 minutes into the game, Wilson Barreto threw the ball into play from the sideline. Academia B.F.'s Wiliam Carioca quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Wiliam Carioca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Primo Sans got free with Róbson Netto in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Wiliam Carioca came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Academia B.F. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wiliam Carioca couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Primo Sans in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Róbson Netto saved Atlético Mineiro from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Atlético Mineiro's Wilson Barreto got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Primo Sans had several of the Atlético Mineiro's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 34 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 3-0 score and a disappointed Róbson Netto as he didn't even see the shot coming. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Primo Sans in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Róbson Netto saved Atlético Mineiro from getting behind. Primo Sans could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Róbson Netto made a huge save. Wilson Barreto hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Róbson Netto came out of the goal in the 46th minute to try and stop a shot by Academia B.F.'s Primo Sans. But to his dismay, Primo Sans quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.

Primo Sans might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Róbson Netto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Primo Sans ran back to his position shaking his head. Atlético Mineiro's Róbson Netto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Primo Sans in the 52nd minute of play. If Primo Sans had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Academia B.F.'s Michel Totti was substituted for Primo Sans. Michel Totti sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Atlético Mineiro's Róbson Netto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Michel Totti in the 72nd minute of play. In the 73rd minute, Michel Totti ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Róbson Netto was frozen by the shot and now it was 6-0. Michel Totti ran back to his position shaking his head. 79 minutes into the match, Atlético Mineiro's goal looked a bit too open when Michel Totti came free, but Róbson Netto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Róbson Netto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Michel Totti in the 80th minute of the match. In the 85th minute the ball was on its way in behind Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper Róbson Netto, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Atlético Mineiro's Róbson Netto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Michel Totti in the 86th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Michel Totti in the 88th minute of play forced Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper Róbson Netto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Michel Totti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Róbson Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Michel Totti in the 90th minute of play. A collision led to Academia B.F. getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Michel Totti hit a great ball. Michel Totti took the ball and in the 95 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Róbson Netto. Róbson Netto dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 8-0. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Academia B.F. fully deserved thier win.
