Róbson Netto was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 5 minutes, Valério Andrade mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Atlético Mineiro and the SeleSantos FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of SeleSantos FC booed when Atlético Mineiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abelardo de Moraes scored 0-2 in the 18th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Róbson Netto, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 25 played minutes Atlético Mineiro got a freekick which was hit by Ernesto Vander. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedrão Falcão in the 27th minute of play forced Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper Róbson Netto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Róbson Netto came out of the goal in the 33rd minute to try and stop a shot by SeleSantos FC's Abelardo de Moraes. But to his dismay, Abelardo de Moraes quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cássio do Vale in the 43rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Róbson Netto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-6 lead.

Róbson Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vivaldo Loureiro in the 55th minute of play. Atlético Mineiro's Róbson Netto proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 56th minute of the match, managed to save Atlético Mineiro from getting a goal against them. Valério Andrade sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 61st minute, Ernesto Vander hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jonas Prestes charged in rather forcefully in the 63rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jonas Prestes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Róbson Netto made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Cássio do Vale sent off a good shot on target. Róbson Netto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vivaldo Loureiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
