Gabriel França kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. Naldo Baiano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leopoldo Sanches in the 12th minute of play forced MINEIROS's goalkeeper Serginho Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Ivo Mello managed to get in a good position for a shot. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's supporters rose to their feet, but Ivo Mello was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Serginho Taffarel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Benê Amorim in the 21st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Miguel Ángel Ortiz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. MINEIROS's Naldo Baiano shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 26th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Miguel Ángel Ortiz but with some difficulty. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Vágner Gaspar managed to get in a good position for a shot. MINEIROS's supporters rose to their feet, but Vágner Gaspar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Miguel Ángel Ortiz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Miguel Ángel Ortiz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Christian Fernandes in the 37th minute of the match. In the 40th match minute, MINEIROS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dorian Loureiro to maneuver through the defense. Serginho Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leopoldo Sanches in the 41st minute of play. Serginho Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joélson Paraibano in the 44th minute of the match. After 46 played minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul got a freekick which was hit by Leopoldo Sanches. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Komen Grama's late challenge caught a MINEIROS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Leopoldo Sanches got free with Serginho Taffarel in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 61st minute of the match, Leopoldo Sanches tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Serginho Taffarel saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After a rather tough play, MINEIROS's Vágner Gaspar got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Leopoldo Sanches could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 66th minute of the match, but Serginho Taffarel made a huge save. The supporters of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul booed when MINEIROS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. William Guerreiro didn't get a good kick on the ball.
